Making the most of the transition to fall...
Summer brings out the best in all of us. It's sunnier, we're all happier, people are outside, and overall life is good. I know from living in New York City, that a common fear in the heart of every New Yorker is that bleak stretch of winter time - when snow lines the streets and makes commuting (and smiling) next to impossible. Now that we have to officially admit fall is here, (reality check: it's the end of September, people!) let's take some time to slow down and appreciate the months before the Dark Age (aka, winter) socks-in much of the northern tier states. No need to mourn quite yet! So, in honor of fall, I decided to make a list of some of my top 10 fall favorites:
1. Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks:
Okay actually, this drink is a tad too bitter for me. So, I generally ask them to put chocolate in it too, which gives it a rich chocolat-ey pumpkin taste!
1. a. Pumkpin...well, anything!
I had to add a "1.a." because frankly I love pumpkin everything. Whether it's pumpkin bread, pumpkin drinks, pumpkin pie...you name it and as long as it has pumpkin as an ingredient, I love it!
2. Hiking in upstate New York
COLORS AND CRISP AIR! Sure, hiking in the summer is great; but, hiking in the fall is even better with beautiful foliage, and no fear of dying by heat stroke.
3. Fall Fashion
Sweaters, sweaters, sweaters - Fall is an excuse to revamp your wardrobe and prepare for the coming months. And with fall, you can do a combination of long sleeves and skirts!
4. All those Sports
From football, to baseball to soccer - fall is primetime!
5. A Fresh start
You can look forward to the New Year without having the craziness of the holidays at your doorstep yet. So look forward, plan and don't feel any pressure about it yet!
6. Apple picking
From September to November there are many establishments that offer tractor pulled hay wagon rides, pet and feed-friendly farm animals, corn mazes, fresh honey, apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple butter, fresh preserves, and myriad other wonderful treats and experiences for your family and friends.
7. Pumpkin picking
The pumpkin can also be used as a great reason to get out in the autumn air and spend the day on a farm, picking through the pumpkin patches for the perfect one. No days like it. Perfection!
8. Great TV
Reruns are finally over! New episodes of your favorite shows are back. Plus, all new shows are starting, too. Get you DVR ready!
9. Fall Foliage
Every fall season, travelers flock to areas to take in the fall foliage and to catch a glimpse of nature's splendor. The colors are mesmerizing and so vibrant, so make sure you get a chance to soak them in too!
10. Fall arts & crafts
Create a new door wreath or make home-made greeting cards with fall flowers, leaves, twigs and ribbons. For Halloween, of course, you'll have to carve or decorate a pumpkin (it's a seasonal requirement, right?!). Collect pine cones, create a beautiful garland or any number of other great ideas - many of which are right at your fingertips on Pinterest!
Hope this cheered you up, and you're now on your way to your nearest coffee shop for a warm Pumpkin Spice Latte!
