Grab the root beer and ice cream because today is National Root Beer Float Day!
This tasty dessert drink can be quite refreshing on these summer days (ok, they're good year-round really), and seems simple enough to make, right? Pour some root beer, top with ice cream and boom - delicious treat! That's indeed the case, but if you like to take these obscure national 'holidays' (yes, I'm air-quoting right now) to new levels, like I often do, here are a few recipes that will really help you celebrate the right way.
Root Beer Float Cupcakes
You can't possible celebrate without cake! This recipe says the root beer barrel hard candies are optional, but I disagree.
Root Beer Float Ice Cream Cake
Vanilla ice cream sandwiched in between two layers of root beer cake.
Homemade Ice Cream
Want to add a personal touch? Make your own vanilla ice cream for extra rich flavor and creaminess.
Cherry-Cherry Chocolate Chip Float
Pour Wild Cherry Cola and top with cherry chocolate chip ice cream - yum!!
Root Beer Float Cocktail
Want to add some kick to your RBF? Spike it! A little Galliano and vanilla vodka can go a long way! Root Beer is also a vodka flavor now, just as an fyi :)
Root Beer Float Fudge
If the drink isn't rich enough for you, this recipe is for you!
And a few tips to perfect the traditional float itself:
- Make sure the root beer is ice cold - perhaps even put it in the freezer for a bit - it'll ensure the ice cream doesn't melt too fast!
- On a diet? Use frozen yogurt instead of ice cream to save some calories.
- Serve with a straw and a spoon to make sure you savor every drop!
