Groundhog Day: the forecast you've been waiting for
February 2. Groundhog Day. The day the entire nation (and Canada) gathers around their TV to watch a rodent predict the forecast. If it wasn't a real thing, no one would believe it. But alas, from Punxatawney Phil to Buckeye Chuck to Shubenacadie Sam to a host of other groundhogs, we're all waiting to see if there will be six more weeks of winter.
Think you know the history of Groundhog Day. Think again. And while we're huge fans of the movie, we're actually hoping for an early spring. To be honest, IMO, the weather hasn't been awful yet in the Northeast, but who doesn't want spring to come sooner?
And if you're curious about the accuracy of these furry predictions, you can see for yourself. It looks like he's about 50/50 which is probably as good as your 2-year old can predict as well (or, for that meteorologist on the local broadcast channel). So let's not stress about the outcome and just hope our Mayor doesn't accidentally kill another one this year.
We can't make this stuff up people. And unlike most things on Staten Island, this doesn't appear to be a mob hit. Or was it?
