Planning a date night every once in a while is a great way to reconnect with your partner and have some fun together. This being my anniversary month, I'm especially in search of some fun, new ideas. And we just love all the options in the fall once the weather has cooled from the hot summer. Check out our list and add some of your own in the comments if you have other ideas!
Many neighborhoods host free outdoor movies throughout the summer (Like in NYC), but some play throughout the fall, too, so be on the lookout. Or, visit a drive-in theater, pack a blanket and lots of snacks and enjoy a movie or two!
You don't have to go to Napa to find great wine. Use this winery finder to find some local spots to spend the day discovering new wines together. And on weekends many wineries will have live music or some sort of entertainment. Cheers!
September nights are perfect for camping, but if you're not up for a road trip to the wilderness, simply pitch a tent in the backyard and make a promise not to go inside until the sun comes up! Extra challenge: leave the electronics inside! If you can make a fire, don't forget all the fixings for s'mores - if not try this indoor s'mores recipe. Bring flashlights, some board games, perhaps a bottle of wine and enjoy the one-on-one time.
Games & cocktails
Food truck hunting
Download an app like Roaming Hunger on your phone to see where your city's best trucks are parked. Sample a bite from each one and make an afternoon of it!
Hike, bike, or 5K!
Explore a new hiking trail or bike through a new part of town for an active day date. Or, schedule a 5K with your significant other and spend a few days a week training together. The accomplishment will be even sweeter when you share it with your partner and the training sessions will be a bit more fun with a buddy!
Accomplishing something together is always very gratifying. Learning a skill that you can you can use in the future is a bonus! Find a class near you, strap on some aprons and cook a great meal together!
Take me out to the ballgame!
Baseball season is winding down, so try to catch a game before it's over. Or, if you want the experience without a Major League price tag, try a minor league game. Get into it by wearing the home team's colors and grabbing a meal (ballpark hot dogs!) at the stadium. In fact, make it a point to walk around the entire stadium - there are usually great photo ops and team mementos throughout.
'Tis the season for apple picking, which is such a fun outdoor fall activity. But don't let the fun end once your bag is full, come home and bake an apple pie from scratch together. Enjoy the fruits of your labor together with a slice of pie!
Get on the water
Even though summer is over, there's still time to enjoy the water by planning a day of kayaking or canoeing. Find some places to paddle near you.
Carnivals pop up everywhere around this time of the year, and they're not just for kids! Challenge each other to some carnival games (whoever gets the biggest stuffed animal with $10 each wins), visit the beer tent, split a funnel cake (eating a little junk food is a must), and be sure to ride the ferris wheel! You'll enjoy the carefree environment and acting silly together.
I don't see nearly as many movies as I'd like to in the theater. So instead, once in a while I make a list of the movies that I missed, we rent 2 or 3 of them, pop some popcorn and make a night of it!
BYOB painting classes are very popular right now, so take advantage of the great deals you can get on Groupon or LivingSocial. My husband and I don't have a lot of opportunities to be creative together (outside of home improvements or the like), so this is a great time to share our creative sides with one another. You'll not only walk away with great memories, but some new artwork to showcase at home as well!
I've made it my mission to find the best brunch place in my area, and let me tell you, finding it can make for some great dates! The laid back atmosphere of brunch combined with the delicious options of stuffed French toast OR a cheeseburger (because brunch is a no-judgement zone: breakfast, lunch, pastries - eat whatever you want!), plus the excuse to drink champagne before noon equals the perfect environment to reconnect with your partner. Chat about the fun times you had over the weekend as well as what's on the agenda for the week ahead.
If you have a dog, spending time with your four-legged friend can lend itself to fun date ideas in itself. Find the best dog parks in town, enjoy lunch at a dog-friendly restaurant or spend time playing and picnicking in the park - all are fun activities that you, your partner and your pup will enjoy!
