This day in history: D-Day

On this day 69 years ago, the world's largest amphibious invasion in world history took place. Over 160,000 allied soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, France in an attempt to put Germany's Third Reich, the Axis powers and the atrocities they led, on their heels to usher in the end of World War II. In what General Dwight D. Eisenhower described as a "great crusade," allied soliders took to the skies, sea and ground on 50 miles of Normandy beach separated into five key beach battles: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. This day is known as "D-Day". Though the losses sustained by the allies were in the thousands from this one maneuver, the courage of those soldiers, as well as their dedication to preserving a free way of life for the rest of the free world, was unparalleled. And so, we thoughtfully reflect on the lives and bravery of all involved in the Normandy landing. We are forever in your debt...
