Just like Mother's Day, in honor of Father's Day, we asked the entire House Party staff to send us something nice about their father or being a father. It could be a poem, a memory, a shout-out, anything. Here's what they had to say... There are so many things I love about my dad - he's got the kookiest sense of humor (I don't believe any of the stories he tells about his Italian farmer upbringing), he finds so much joy in the small things (especially his favorite hobby, digital photography), and helps me put my so-called problems in perspective. But, for some reason, when asked about my thoughts and memories about my dad, the first thing that came to mind was that he could only cook with cheese when I was growing up and mom was out. Grilled cheese, mac 'n cheese, cheese omelets...is that a "dad thing" or is that a my dad thing? Either way - love you, Dad! - Sarah
My father gave me the greatest gift - he supports me in everything I do. - Andy
Happy Father's Day to my dad who has provided some fantastic opportunities for me and taught me some great lessons along the way...thanks DAD! - Carol
My father passed away 10 years ago. Every day he channels his spirit through me. I have kept him alive in my heart by leveraging all of his wisdom - and I have quite a library to select from: parenting with love, marriage 101, caring for animals, managing people, work survival, reading books, love of music, fostering friendships, gardening 101, building stone walls, cooking without recipes, creative tennis, how to drive stick shift, how to make a mean Bloody Mary...it goes on and on. I was very lucky to have such a great father. My only regret is that he was never able to meet my husband and my son. I know they would have loved him. - Alex
My dad is retiring this year in June, so it's a special month to thank him for working so hard all these years and giving up so much so I could have everything I wanted and needed to be happy and successful. Thanks, Dad! - Liz M
I love my dad! He's a hard working rock star with a gentle soul and enthusiastic spirit! His love for my mom and his family has been an inspiration to not only me, but my husband as well. And to top it off, he ADORES his new grandson and is always available to help out when needed. Happy Father's Day Dad! - Melissa
My dad was always more than willing to go to car shows, air shows, "dude" trips and our favorite haunts together. He always provided guidance when needed, encouragement when I was down and PLENTY of laughs when those were in order (which is always, of course!). I always love chatting with him, even if it's just over the phone, and ever since college we've grown more into friends than just father and son. I'm definitely thinking of Dad this Father's Day and hope I can be half as good at being a dad as he's been for me. - Brian
I have such strong memories of my dad. He worked 14 hour days, 6 days a week to provide for his family and even though he was tired, every Sunday was always "family day". We'd do anything from go to the movies, run errands, shop, visit a cool location and it always culminated in going out to dinner. During the week we never saw him much, but at night when that garage door would open, my brother and I would race to the door to welcome him home. I've never doubted my father's love and that to me is the best gift of all. - Danielle
He's the BEST dad! He is always there to do all of the little things for our girls like helping them with a science project, taking the later train to work so he can walk them to school, coaching their sports team, and he's always good for a tickle fight. He's always there for his family to be the decision maker, Mr. fix-it and do-everything and for the dog who knows that when Daddy's home, he gets serious playtime. He's my best friend, my soul mate and the person I'm so lucky to share my life with. Wishing my husband the best Father's Day ever! - Betsy
Fantastic dad And loving husband who always provided for us and Truly was the Head of the household. As I have gotten older, I am Even more appreciative of all he has done for us, and I greatly love and Respect him this day and always. Happy Father's Day dad! - Barbara
Aside from instilling important values in my siblings and me, my dad took us on many adventurous trips that any kid would be lucky to have. From a donkey ride down the Grand Canyon to dinner at the rotating Space Needle restaurant in Seattle, he always jam-packed those experiences and enriched our lives with knowledge about everything we saw together. He set a good example, with his thrill-seeking nature and passions in life - always balancing work and family with his hiking and photography hobbies, documenting life's moments on film. Now, we're especially grateful to have those fond memories captured, as he looks over us in Spirit. He'll be in our thoughts this Father's Day and it's comforting to know he is always with us. - Melody
Happy Father's Day to my dad, who passed just three months before my mom - 10 years ago. It was my dad who after having two boys said, "let's have a girl!" - and so they did. No one worked harder or loved his kids more, always providing the very best for all of us. Some days I look in the mirror or see a photo of myself and notice the almost identical features in our eyes, hands and smile which brings on a "surprise visit" from him - and feels really good. Love you Dad and miss you very much. - Christine V.
It's hard to put into words how much my dad means to me. I've always been a "Daddy's Girl" and love the close relationship that I still have with my dad. I've often been called a female clone of my dad, (my mom's never been happy about that!), but it's because I look just like him, act just like him and we have the same dorky sense of humor. I love that my dad and I can laugh at the same goofy jokes and enjoy the same movies and books. When I've needed help and advice as I've stepped out on my own these past 2 years, my dad has always been there 100%. I don't think I could ever express how much I love you Dad, I am who I am because of you. I love you! Happy Father's Day! - Nicole
My memories of Father's Day include making fun gifts for my dad that were always golf related! As I help my daughters make presents for their loving father, it's funny how we've carried on that tradition with them drawing him golf and tennis-themed pictures. - Lisa
Father's Day is always a tough day for me. I enjoy celebrating what a wonderful Dad my husband is to my three kids, but it also makes me sad as I lost my dad almost 20 years ago. My dad was a funny, hard-working and incredibly loving man - whom I loved and respected, and at times, feared. He sacrificed a lot to give me and my two brothers opportunities he didn't have. He helped shape who I am in my personal and professional life and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't remember him and am thankful for the time I had with him. Thank you Dad. Happy Father's Day! - Pam
There are a lot of things that my dad has taught me over the years. And even more things that he made me do that at the time I didn't want to, but am grateful for it now. For instance, he used to make me read the newspaper or a book to him after dinner. I fought it at the time, but now realize how special it was to spend that time together every night. Plus, I'm pretty good at reading out loud, something many people are terrible at! Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, it's hard getting your kids to do stuff, but hopefully, one day, they'll appreciate it. - Stephanie B.
My five year-old daughter wrote a poem about her dad/my husband a few weeks ago. It closed with this line: "My dad helps me. He helps me. My dad loves me." I could still say the same about my dad. I am 40 years-old and he's still the guy I call for help. He's a strong moral compass and I know so much of me comes from the best of him - a love of outdoors, a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor. Thank you Dad for all these things and so much more. Thanks for helping me and loving me - just like you did when I was that five year-old little girl. - Kerry
Dad we know that we don't say it often enough but we love you very much. You're the greatest dad in the world. We wouldn't be where we are today without you. Thanks for all you've done. Happy Father's Day! Love, Leonora & Elizabeth
My dad was one of my biggest cheerleaders and believed I could do anything. He also had a great sense of humor and we laughed over silly things together. It's weird, but when he got very ill at the end of his life, I had some of my best times with him just talking. I really miss him. My husband is as good as father to our kids as my dad was for me. - Jane
