Even though I'm relatively young - in my mid-20's - I still remember the beginning of the internet...it really is kind of new. I'm lucky to have a dad who works in tech - we were one of the earlier adapters. I remember dial-up modems and free AOL trial CDs and everyone's personal GeoCities. Really horrible, ugly websites that I thought were the bee's-knees. Oh, and remember when the hamster dance came out in 2000?! It's one of the first internet memes ever! I could go on and on and on, but I'll leave it at this: we've come a loooooong way. Check out this public service announcement from 1995 that we recently saw floating around the internet. And even though the internet now looks nothing like it did then, we totally knew where we were going.
And, of course, there's always this gem from a 1994 episode of the Today Show.
You gotta hand it to Katie Couric, though. She uses that "@" sign like a champ on Twitter, now!
